The War is Over!

The GTB has scooped another story.

From the Army: "We're not at war. War ended a long time ago."

We're bringing our boys and girls home! The war is over!

Yes that's right, the war is over. Don't believe me? Well I suggest you go down to your local Army recruiting office and ask them yourselves. This is what young men and women inquiring at recruiting offices are being told.

Ok, well ABC News has scooped this story, but in good GTB fashion we're taking this news to the streets.

Among other things you've always wanted to know from an Army Recruiter but were afraid to ask:

-Drug Addicted High School Dropouts are welcome in the Army (but no Fags please!)
-If you don't like the Army, you can just leave. It's that easy.

We joke about this, but in all honesty this is not funny. Not in the least bit. Men and Woman are putting their lives on the line every day in Iraq and the war is far from OVER and people are still being sent to Iraq. In fact the pentagon is working on plans to redeploy some national guard troops, a move contrary to previous military decision.

Young men and women considering military service are to be commended for considering service to their nation and should not be tricked or deceived into service. The U.S. Army (again, the institution, not the individual service members) and the recruiters who speak for them should be ashamed of themselves.

But at the same time...if they're not aware of the fact that we're at war (and that we're not leaving anytime soon) and they believe it...maybe we shouldn't be giving these guys/girls loaded weapons??? But in ALL seriousness, the idea that they would be lying to these kids is horrifying and sadly, extremely believable.

Welcome to the GTB Daisy Hardbottle.

Not to get on my high horse but I also find it hard to comprehend that given the option of letting a drug addict into the army or an openly gay man, its the latter that is bad for the unit.

I must be missing something cuz i don't get it.

I am in no way condoning the "we're not at war" statements, but I will say that being a recruiter (for any service) is among the most demanding jobs in the military (for more than just the obvious reasons).

Onto the "we're not at war" statment - I'm curious: Where the heck did the "War on Terror" go? First they drop the "Stay the Course" phrase, then the D's win Congress, and suddenly "we're not at war". Could this be a sign of things to come? Sadly, I don't think so, but I continue to keep hope alive.

Yeah, the devastating effect of this war becomes even clearer when it hits close to home. Captainadventure, i'm really sorry to hear about your neighbors death. As awful as it is to hear of any military member dying, It pours salt in the wounds even more when the Army is essentially saying, "You're not welcome because you are gay, but were kinda hard pressed right now so we'll put up with you."

If your gonna implement bigoted policies, stick to them. Don't suddenly forget about it when you need some fucking cannon fodder!
