Does this Smell Bad to You?

New York City is repairing a 'small gas leak' in Manhattan but officials say that this leak does not account for the nasty smell that has blanketed the city. This might be a stab in the dark, but a possible explanation is that the usually self-absorbed Manhattanites have suddenly woken up and smelled their neighbor, New Jersey. There is no evidence that this is what happened, I just couldn't miss the chance to take a cheap shot at New Jersey AND Manhattan all in one post.

a) Manhattan is fabulous. I love everything about it, including the crowds, proximity of everything to everything else, and shopping (which are probably the things that Lulu hates :)). I do, however, hate the public transportation system (well, the subways, anyway). They haven't made great strides in making it accessible.
b) NJ does smell in many parts, especially on the turnpike. This may be why the state tried (unsuccessfully) several years ago to make the state song "Born To Run" - as in "It's a deathtrap, it's a suicide-wrap...We gotta get out while we're young, 'cause tramps like us, baby we were born to ruuuuunnnnn..." I'm sure that effort had nothing to do with the fact that Bruce Springsteen was from there...
c) Didn't I read somewhere that Manhattan was an island actually built out of garbage? I may be starting rumors here, but it's worth investigating, Lulu.
