Tu Rock Es Votar

Is it not bad enough that they want our jobs, our education, and our healthcare…now they want to jack our youth voter empowerment movement too?* Damn you Mexico for wanting a democracy built on equal representation of all ages and walks of life! And Damn you MTV for delivering it to them on a silver platter. I hope after robbing us of “Rock the Vote” they set their sites on Paris Hilton.

*LuLu does not actually believe that Mexicans are trying to jack our jobs, education, and healthcare, and is actually psyched to see the youth of Mexico engaged in the future of their country. However, she does believe, wish, and hope that Mexico will consider ridding us of Paris Hilton. Perhaps we could trade her for some delicious quesadillas.

Sorry! Typos. I was fired up when typing. Here goes: An important distinction to be made is the difference between law-abiding immigrants and illegal aliens. Illegals from many countries (including but not limited to Mexico) ARE exploiting our country, expecting free healthcare, education, social services, political rights, day laborer sites etc. Yet, they aren't paying taxes and conversely, are sending all of their money home (hence, not pumping that in to the American economy.) Wake up, people. IT IS OUT OF CONTROL and until members of both sides of the political spectrum agree that it's a problem, nothing is going to be done to curb this atrocity. Don't argue with me on this one as we have approx. 12 million (probably more but who really knows) or so criminals running rampant around our country and expecting hand outs...with instructions in Spanish, mind you. There is a difference between a law-abiding, legal immigrant and an illegal alien. Unfortunately in the media and in many peoples' minds, a distinction is NOT made. I am not anti-immigrant. I am anti-illegal alien.

Anon - I really think people on both sides of the political spectrum agree on the fact that there is a problem. If they don't, at least I do. But, don't get all fired up if you're not willing to offer a solution. And, I have yet to hear a single plan that solves any of the problems that exist. I surely don't have one cooked up yet. I will point out that it is the "right" side of said political spectrum that controls the scheduling of votes in Congress; and did you see a vote? Nope? Me neither.

I don't really agree with you that the illegal immigrant problem that we have in the United States is an "atrocity." Come on! I know it is a felony to enter the U.S. illegally, I live in an area where there is a significant (non-Mexican hispanic) illegal alien population, and I consider myself a fairly logical person - but categorizing people looking for a better life as "criminals running rampant around our country and expecting handouts" is a hate-filled statement. What have they done to you?

I also don't particularly like that everything around me is in both Spanish and English (and sometimes just in Spanish), but the fact remains that the good ole U.S. of A. DOES NOT HAVE an official language. So - we really can't complain at the moment. You see how many folks are jumping on board to change that law? Not too many, because there is in fact a substantial Hispanic voting block that isn't going for it. I digress.

Are you feeling like they are taking your money? Because there are a laundry list of other ways the government TAKES our money from us. Tax breaks for the wealthy at the expense of the middle class, loop holes for big business, pork... Surely you know that the current president has yet to veto a spending bill. His latest push for line item veto for spending bills is as transparent as his desire for military tribunals.

Illegal immigrants are pumping up the economy or there would not be so much GOP support for letting them stay as "workers". Big (and small) business profits from a cheap labor supply. In fact, the President's plan calls for exploitation in the truest sense of the word. You get nothing from us and yet we suck the life out of you with no opportunity for advancement, fair wages, health care or citizenship. These people are not sending all of their money "home". They live here, so they pay rent, they buy groceries, they buy gasoline. They contribute to our economy in a number of ways.

Don't argue with you on this one? Don't argue with me. My mother and her entire family legally immigrated to this country, my father works for the House of Representatives, I work for the Bankruptcy Court and my husband works in migrant interdiction. I've got this issue down from a number of sides.
