The Other Us

As most of you know, I have a thing for dopplegangers. I have often wondered what will happen on the day that I meet my own evil (or good for all I know) other self. Will the world implode? Will we be friends? Will he or she also be allergic to mushrooms? I also have to live each day knowing that the laws of physics may prevent me from ever truly getting to know the other me, but maybe there is a consolation prize. GTB, meet the Googleganger.

Googlegangers are the twins you find when you search for yourself on the internet. Curious about what the other LuLus have been up to, I googled myself today with the express purpose of finding my own googleganger. Without revealing my own identity or hers, I will tell you that my googleganger is a middle school track star in Kentucky.

Scooter has several Googlegangers including a 1904 Olympic Medalist (swimming), a pioneer in the "mobile oxygen bar business", a TV Producer, and an MD who majored in Japanese and minored in Chemistry at Brigham Young University.

Tell us about your googleganger in the comments section.

I probably have thousands under my married name. Not interesting.

But, the maiden shows a googleganger that's a real biotch! The comment was something like "how do you resist the urge to headbutt [insert my name here]?" I thought that they could easily have been talking about me, but it's some Aussie website, so I'm relatively safe! Phew!

So far, my googleganger is a 70 yr old window in the 1930 census, in in account management at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, a 1992 volleyball player from Stanford, intervention specialist at Beechwood Elementary School, editor-in-chief, a plantiff, and a photographer. And best of all a Enemy Alien Registration Affidavit from WWI there my googleganger was apparently married to an enemy alien. But I was mostly impressed (and a little frightened) that the real me came up A LOT!

I have a Duggar-sized googleganger family, but I focus on one now, since I feel like I know her. We were at the same school at the same time. I always got her email by mistake and was even enrolled in one of her classes on blackboard. She, alas, was the smart one: 100% average in Neurobiology, tutored math and was awarded a Howard Hughes grant. Also a fan of the BBC Pride & Prejudice, one thing we have in common.

Turns out I don't have a doppleganger. I'm me. How boring. But with a name like Brooke Bruthers, what did I expect?

I have an 8 year old googleganger in Iowa. It's creepy, because she is also a runner! I take pride in the fact that I am way more google-famous than she is, but seeing as how she just won first prize for youth photography at the Iowa State Fair, she may give me a run (ha!) for my money in the years to come.

I, like Howlingjay, have quite a few googlegangers out there. I was quite surprised to find so many "me's" for my maiden name - I am so egocentric as to believe I am the only Jennifer Menser in the world. One such match is actually another second grade teacher in Illinois. Weird. There are also lots of other teachers, mostly in Pennsylvania, which is where my dad's from, so that would explain it. As for my married name - Feldman, that's like the Jewish form of Smith (no racist comment here - my husband IS actually Jewish), so something like 1.8 million results showed up for that one. I have to say, however, that when I searched "Jennifer Menser Feldman" only one result popped up, which made me feel really special on a day that my one-year-old wouldn't let me even take a shower... Somewhere the gods are smiling down on me... :)
